Eater of Lies
Pinocchio, human puppet,
saws off his thin pencil-nose
and pokes it
(bloody raindrops fall)
through the toothy pocket
of his walnutted jaw
(mouth shuts and swallows).
In the mirror, he watches
his soft-varnished forehead frown,
thick veins bulge like mountains.
A lie can taste hollow.
